I stand before you as a representative of a people who have suffered deeply for fifty years, bearing the heavy cost of a brutal occupation, annexation, and the systematic plundering of their natural resources by their northern neighbor, Morocco. The enduring pain experienced by the people of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic demonstrates a universal truth: whether local or global, small or large, war ultimately yields nothing but death, destruction, and profound suffering. Consequently, this Conference for an Alliance to Prevent a Great War is both deeply significant and exceptionally timely.
When examining the contemporary global landscape, we observe the continuous erosion of international law, the decay of the multilateral framework, and the unchecked normalization of the resort to force. Unilateral power projection is no longer an exception; it has manifested across the Middle East, Europe, Latin America, Africa, and beyond. If localized conflicts and occupations are not urgently addressed, they will inevitably serve as the precursors to a catastrophic global confrontation. Decisions rendered by the United Nations General Assembly and the Security Council are routinely ignored or selectively applied to serve the strategic interests of major powers. The violations observed in Ukraine and Western Sahara stem from this same systemic failure.
To avert a global catastrophe and prevent the destruction of our planet, three immediate imperatives must be pursued:
1. A resolute return to a genuinely multilateral international order.
2. Comprehensive and structural reforms within the organs of the United Nations, notably the Security Council.
3. The resolution of all regional conflicts grounded strictly in international law, prioritizing diplomacy and sustained negotiation.
The Polisario Front and the Sahrawi people remain fully committed to exercising their inalienable right to self-determination and sovereign freedom. The unbridled competition among major powers over global natural resources continues to push humanity toward the brink of a major war. I express my profound gratitude to our colleagues at the World Civilizations Initiative Research Center (DÜNYA-MER) for organizing this vital initiative and for their steadfast solidarity with the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic.
